Erin Sinclair is based in Grimsby but she's taking a break from teaching at the moment. I don't know any others teaching there but if you can travel as far as Brigg you'll be OK. Have you checked the website teachers and groups page? http://www.lincolnshirebellydancer.co.uk
Not sure about Grimsby - but if you can get to Louth, I go to Arabian Delights Dance Club which is such a laugh!! It is Tuesday nights at 7.00 - 9.00pm at Monks Dyke School. (look under classes on this LBD site). I must admit it is not a "class" as there are no teachers - so it may not be totally what you are after?? but it is basically a group of ladies who get together and bellydance and have a good giggle - we can show you moves that we know, but no one is officially qualified. Hope to see you soon? Its probably best to start in May now though as it is not on at the mo coz of holidays but will be on again soon.
Maz, most teachers in Lincolnshire or elsewhere in the UK have no formal qualifications. The only formal qualifications available in belly dance that I know of are the JWAAD certificate (Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance) and there's also a whatdjamacallit... an NVQ available through Lincolnshire Dance (see links page on the website). I know one or two have JWAAD certs or are working on them and one had an NVQ 3 but she left and moved to the USA.
Most teachers dance for a few years, take lots of workshops and then start teaching what they know because there aren't enough teachers and classes.
I've seen you girls dance, you can teach a beginner enough to make her an addict.
I think the important thing is that if you're going to call yourself a teacher you have to join one of the associations (like NADA or MADN or Lincolnshire Dance) so that you can get teacher's liability insurance. I think the associations expect certain standards but I'm not sure what they are.
I think I have that right but I'm open to correction. Hey! I'm just a bloke with a web site and two left feet!
Fanx for the info too - I will let the other girlies at class know, we could maybe look into it.... sounds a bit complicated to me personally but you never know. We are doing workshops and that is one the main reasons why I want to go to Blackpool (BDSS) there are just sooo many to choose from.
As for you having 2 left feet - we will have to see at the next hafla - LOL
